The funding train came to a stop outside Dorval for the nations most recognized Comedy festival this week. Just for Laughs, or ‘They Treat Canadians like Shit Festival’, as it’s known in Canadian comedy circles, announced they would not be presenting a 2024 summer festival. Instead, Canadian taxpayers, who have foot a major part of the bill for JFL for years, will be treated to non-stop re-runs of ‘Just for Gags.’ The aptly named (the gagging part) and insanely shrill, hidden camera show that for some inane reason is counted as ‘Canadian content.’ So, the window is open for a festival that promotes Canadian talent first.
